Purchased this external drive a month ago, because I wanted to maintain my present internal DVD drive. This LG BE08LU20 has worked flawlessly and produced excellent BD discs. I've burned and erased about ten times with BD-RE discs and have burned three BD-R discs. Each and every one turned out perfectly - no coasters. I've utilized good quality blank discs - Verbatim BD-R and BD-RE. I cannot speak for other brands, but critiques I've read indicate Verbatim has fewer difficulties. The USB connect is fantastic if you have no ESATA external outlet. But it is a lot slower than using ESATA. USB burns at 480 mb/s. ESATA burns at 1.five gb/s -- around 3 times faster. Substantially, LG consists of an external ESATA bracket, with a cable, so it is possible to simply produce an external ESATA outlet (assuming your personal computer has an open ESATA connect on the motherboard and an accessible slot in the back). The bracket is the standard large size, so if you have a smaller personal computer, like the Dell Inspiron, you will need to order a "low profile" ESATA bracket. (Review More...)
